Interview with Jeff

Why Massage Therapy?

There is no shortage of people in the world who live with the notion that "I'm too young to feel this darn old."  The aches, the pains, the stress of daily living just has us all bogged down.  Alleve, Advil, and all of the other pharmaceuticals can't be the answer -- they just can't!  The body can take of itself -- but sometimes it just needs a little help by way of kneading, or rocking, or stretching the muscles ... which are really just different ways of reminding the body what healthy feels like, what relaxed means.

How Long Have You Been Practicing Massage Therapy?

I began a program in professional massage therapy in the summer of 2006, and from the start I knew I found a place and a way to really help myself and others find their way to health and wholeness.

Is There Something in Your Background That Pointed You Toward Massage Therapy?

Growing up I spent a lot of time with family members - young and old - who were dealing with some pretty serious illness and watching them just try to get comfortable and settled was always hard -- I always just wished for some way to take away their pain and discomfort, but was afraid to touch them at the same time.  And even in more recent times, being with friends and seeing their stress as they cared for their own children and aging parents, and especially wishing I could do more to bring comfort to my wife during pregnancy.

What I wish I knew then!  I think all these experiences have pointed me toward a special affection for working with the elderly, with those who are living with life-altering illness, and even with those who are approaching the end of this earthly journey.  I know I can't cure any of them, but if I can bring some measure of comfort and peace and wholeness then I will have done good work -- I will have done God's work.
